kindly help me in solving these probs:-
1) one day mammu set a very interesting prob to me. she pushed a large circular table into a corner of the room,so that it touched both walls and spilled a spot of ink on the extreme edge and said- look at that spot, it is exactly 8 in. from one wall and 9 in. from the other. tell me the diameter of the table without measuring it?
2) there r 2 candles of diff. width but same length. one burns for 4 hr. and other for 5 hr.,both the candles r lit at the same time. after some time both of them was put off. what remained of one candle was exactly 4 times the length of what was left of other. can u find for how long those two candles were burning? |

(Ans) 15/4 hours.
Ratio of Lengths of Thicker to Thinner = R = (1-(t/5))/(1-(t/4))=4
Hence 15/4 hours
Let 16L be initial length. At t = 15/4 hour, Thicker : 4L and Thinner = L |

Hi;
Please check with mamu, whether the diameter of the table is 58 inches.

Diameter can be either 10 or 58 |

| yes after solving quadratic we get 10 and 58 as solution.......but i think 58 is not possible as the radius should be less than both 8 and 9.so 10 should be the answer |
