1) The owner of an art shop conducts his business in the following manner. Every once in a while he raises his prices by X%, then a while later he reduces all the new prices by X%. After one such up-down cycle, the price of a painting decreased by Rs. 441. After a second up-down cycle, the painting was sold for Rs. 1944.81. What was the original price of the painting (in Rs.)? (CAT, 2003)
1) 2756.25 2) 2256.25 3) 2500 4) 2000

2) In a survey of political preferences, 78% of those asked were in favour of at least one of the proposals: I, II, III. 50% of those asked favoured proposal I. 0% favoured proposal II and 20% favoured proposal III. If 5% of those asked favoured all three of the proposals, wht percentage of those asked favoured more than one of the three proposals? (CAT, 1999)

1)You have solve a quadratic in term sof the original price, 'P' of the painting.

The trick is in solving it this way.

P^2 -(2*441+441^2/100)*P +441^2=0

P=2756.25.

2) I feel this question is posted incorrectly so much so that '0%' favoured proposal II????

The correct answer is 17,option-3.

Draw the Ven Diagram and notice that the # that prefer exactly two magazines is 50+30+20-10-78=12

The required quant is 12+5( those who prefer all three)=17.

1) Correct answer is 32.5(130/400*100)

2)Correct answer is 324138(a)

The female population is 31.2+2.1+11.2=44.5% of the total.

3)The correct answer is 351.5.(( 1.1*2+1.15*5)-7)*2590/7

4)b(41/40)^3*64000=41^3..
